Properties of 2D Shapes and 3D Objects

MTH 4-16a

To run the tutorials simply click on the video you wish to play remembering to pause the video when attempting the questions! You should work through the exercises and homework in a squared jotter to keep all your work together. You should mark every section as soon as you finish it and write down your score.

For certain areas you will need a scientific calculator like the casio fx-85GT PLUS.

Once you have practiced the skills, be sure to see if you can apply them in the exam questions at the bottom of the page. These questions should be revisited every so often as it is important to revise previous work so you don't forget it. Good luck! :)

Skills developed in this module;

  • Pythagoras' Theorem
  • Right-angled trigonometry

Bronze Level

This module develops your skills at Pythagoras' Theorem and Right-Angled Trigonometry. At bronze level we learn how to calculate the longest in a right-angled triangle using Pythagoras' Theorem and we learn how to find a side using trigonometry.

Video 132: Outcome 1 - Pythagoras' Theorem. Grab a pen and your Rigour jotter. Make sure you try all the questions!

Video 133: Outcome 2 - Right angled trigonometry. Remember to copy down the worked examples and take notes. These will help you revise and remember!

Here is a bronze worksheet to download if you want more practice at these important skills. To view the answers click here.

Silver Level

At silver level, we learn how to use Pythagoras' Theorem to find a shorter side and how to calculate the size of an angle using trigonometry.

Video 134: Outcome 1 - Pythagoras' Theorem. Grab a pen and your Rigour jotter. Make sure you try all the questions!

Video 135: Outcome 2 - Right angled trigonometry. Remember to copy down the worked examples and take notes. These will help you revise and remember!

Gold Level

At gold level, we consider how Pythagoras will help us in triangles that are not right-angled and we solve trigonometry problems for the dreaded scenario when 'x' is on the bottom!!!

Video 136: Outcome 1 - Pythagoras in isosceles triangles. Grab a pen and your Rigour jotter. Make sure you try all the questions!

Video 137: Outcome 2 - Right angled trigonometry. Remember to copy down the worked examples and take notes. These will help you revise and remember!
